root（字根），是字源（英文部首）的一種，它的位置游移不定。例如flex這個字根是bend的意思──

flexible → flex，to bend＋-ible，able to；所以flexible是able to bend，就是「易彎曲的、柔順的、彈性的」。
inflexible → in-，not＋flex，to bend＋-ible，able to；故inflexible是not able to bend，即「不屈的，堅定的」。
circumflex → circum-，around＋flex，to bend；則circumflex是 to bend around，意指「母音上面的彎曲符號^」。

從上面的例字，可以看出flex的位置，有時在前或在後，有時出現在中間，好比中文的部首。
